Artskind® was created to be in support of the Performing Arts industry which was part of Steve's life for many years as a non-professional participant.

 

Steve spent many years in the dance studio, in choir and vocal coaching, on stage in amateur productions, working as a supernumerary in the national tour of Evita, and as the locum massage therapist to the national tour of Cats The Musical. He performed as The Boss in Credit Crunch - the Musical for Pineapple Performing Arts and completed their Performing Arts courses. Despite being a sports scientist, remedial massage therapist, and pilates studio student instructor, having been astonished that knees can sweat in tap, jazz, musical theatre, ballet, contemporary, commercial, Fosse workshops, hip-hop and other dance classes it was a natural path to want to give back to an industry that gave and continues to give him and others so much joy and hope.

The performing arts industry is a specialist industry with unique challenges relating to threats to the (mental) health of its members. Insecurity around work, constant judgement, isolation and loneliness, away from support networks whilst touring. The list goes on and is extensive.

 

Current industry support is limited; offering emergency financial support, faceless helplines, mental health awareness training opportunities. An industry that expects excellence, demands dedication and long hours, and where the rewards and respect don't always match the love given by those working in it.

We help to build a community of self sustainable support within the community, that doesn't rely on faceless strangers or costly services.
